The Woodland Retreat: A Native Shade Garden

This Kensington yard was once choked by dense carpets of vinca and English ivy. Rainwater rushed toward the house, while sprawling lawn and overgrown corners left little room to gather, wander, or experience the surrounding woodland.

PlantMe Love transformed the property into a welcoming native woodland garden. We redirected runoff away from the house and introduced water-retaining gardens, natural retaining walls, and gently shaped terraces to guide moisture and give the landscape a graceful structure. By reducing the lawn and reclaiming neglected areas, we created more inviting space for outdoor living and exploration. Layered native plantings now weave together rich textures, seasonal color, and gentle movement, while offering essential habitat for pollinators and birds.

From the office and many of the living spaces, the garden now offers an amazing view throughout the day. Its layered planting, natural forms, and changing seasonal details bring the restorative presence of nature into daily life, while the reimagined landscape provides a welcoming place to gather, wander, and connect with the woodland around it.
