Landscaping That Respects Nature and Celebrates Native Beauty in Md. DC & NOVA
ShopThis rooftop terrace in DuPont Circle was transformed into a refined outdoor living space through a layered container planting design that balances structure, texture, and seasonality.
The planting composition combines architectural evergreens with a curated mix of perennials and select native species, including Lonicera sempervirens, Panicum virgatum, and compact cultivars such as Achillea millefolium ‘Little Moonshine’ (PP28179). These selections introduce movement, pollinator value, and seasonal variation while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic.
Vertical elements establish rhythm and privacy along the perimeter, while layered underplantings of heuchera, silvery foliage, and trailing textures soften the edges of the planters and bring cohesion to the space.
The central lounge is framed by planting, creating an intimate outdoor room designed for gathering, relaxing, and everyday use.
Each container was designed as a self-contained planting system, combining evergreen structure with seasonal highlights to ensure year-round presence and low maintenance.
